4.       What is the specific community need(s) that will be addressed? Why do they need to be addressed?

We hope to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project in the Orange County area.
We want to provide help for the injured military service members and their families and develop relationships with the veterans. We wish to show as much appreciation as possible for the injured servicemembers and their families. The military service members have sacrificed so much for their country, and we feel that our community should do something to give back. When we contacted the Wounded Warrior Project, they conveyed that they needed more volunteers and funds to build upon their Hope Center. This is where we wish to provide the most support on a monthly basis.

5.       What are possible activities/opportunities you may execute within the scope of this project?

We have already reached out the to Wounded Warrior Camp Pendleton Branch. They offered us the opportunity to volunteer at one of their pre-existing programs. If we were to volunteer we would be working at the Hope Center at Camp Pendleton. That’s where all the wounded veterans go to receive physical treatment. Another one of our group objectives is to hold a paintball tournament and raffle to raise money for the Wounded Warriors project. This idea has already been approved by the organization.

6.       What do you hope to have accomplished by March?

We hope to have hosted at least two successful fundraisers for WWP. We also hope to attend multiple WWP programs and volunteer at the Hope Center frequently. Additionally, we hope to successfully host our planned paintball tournament so that the proceeds can aide the Hope center at Camp Pendleton.

7.       How will you plan to achieve your goals? (Be as specific as possible)

     Paintball
We are looking to host a Consolation Bracket Paintball tournament.
Teams will consist of 6 players with a total of 12 teams. The game played will be Elimination (Last Man Standing). Two teams will compete against each other, eliminating players by marking each other with paintballs, until one player remains.
The teams entering the tournament will have to pay an entrance fee to cover the cost of the game play and donations to WWP. Entrance cost will be determined after we receive an email response from Camp Pendleton Paintball Park.
     Raffle
The secondary fundraiser will be hosting a raffle. (Most likely at the paintball tournament)
Raffles tickets will be sold at $5-$10 / per ticket, which will be entered into the raffle for a large prize. Possible items are:
     Xbox One
     PS4
     Camera
The money received from the raffle tickets will cover the cost of supplies (Tickets and Prizes) and the remaining balance will be donated to WWP.

Volunteer Opportunities

Hope Center:
Throughout our project we will be volunteering at the Hope and Care Center in order to show appreciation for wounded service members and provide extra hands for events that need more volunteers. Ultimately, we will be volunteering wherever necessary for the organization at Camp Pendleton and specifically the Hope and Care Center.

Paintball Tournament:
We contacted Staff Sergeant Abner, PR for the Wounded Warrior Project Camp Pendleton branch, and he approved our idea of organizing a paintball tournament in order to promote the Wounded Warrior Project and raise funds to donate to the Hope Center. Through this tournament, we will have rights to sell different items in order to raise money. Additionally, there will be an entrance fee for the event, so given the popularity of paintball at Pendleton, this is projected to be a very successful fundraising event.

Inspirational Speaking Events:
In order to promote the organization and recruit more volunteers, we will be looking to set up speaking opportunities for representatives of the project and wounded veterans themselves who have taking part in the project. This will provide us with an opportunity to advertise our paint balling event and recruit helping hands. A potential speaker will be Sergeant Jason Pacheco, a military service member who went through the Camp Pendleton branch of the Wounded Warrior project. This man's leg was lost to an IED in Afghanistan and he was able to learn to use his prosthetic limb to function at the same level as any other Marine Scout Sniper.

Wounded Warrior Project Service Learning

"To foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history." (www.woundedwarriorproject.org)

The purpose of our service learning project is to provide as much help as we can to the wounded veterans of our country. We hope to create fundraisers to raise funds to donate to the Hope Center at Camp Pendleton as well as volunteer at this Hope and Care Center whenever possible. We hope to host a paintball tournament at Camp Pendleton where the proceeds will be donated to the organization.
